1.1: Categorical Data

• categorical: qualitative
• quantitative: numerical
• bar graphs, NOT histograms
• watch the scale!
• frequency = count
• relative frequency = %

1.2: Displaying Quantitative Data

• describing distribution: SOCS (Shape, Outliers, Center, Spread)
• mean is affected by skew, median is not
• histograms: if comparing distributions w/ diff. sample sizes, use %

1.3: Describing Quantitative Data

• IQR = Q1Q3
  • middle 50% of observations
